Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 10

Bitch Slap That Bitch

After last week's goodbye to Gunnar, we're down to 7 designers!

All photos courtesy of Lifetime

This week the designers are sent to Radio City Music Hall and before we see a single kick ball change, we all know they'll be designing for the Rockettes.  Tim Gunn explains the specifics: a new costume for the Rockettes that can be worn year-round and that is practical and modern.  The winning design will actually be produced and worn by the Rockettes!

Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 9

The Truth Shall Set You Free

It's Fashion Week, which means Project Runway is halfway over already!  It also means the Project Runway winner has already been selected!  Earlier this week the remaining 8 contestants all showed fashion week collections; 5 dummy collections to plus the top 3 finalists.  Let the spoilers begin!  I'm trying my best to avoid any pictures of the show, seeing as how my superior eye would surely be able to identify the finalists.

Back to the episode, the designers are pouring one out for their homies (last week we said goodbye to our favorite granola, Alicia) and fearing who will be the next to fall.  Off camera, the designers are suspicious of Christopher AKA Ted Bundy and his involvement in the disapperance of not one but TWO former contestants.  Sensing this discord, Christopher claims he's scared for who's going to go home next, but I'm not buying it.  Christopher's not going home any time soon.

Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 8

Conventions of Democracy

Last week NO ONE went home and Christopher, AKA Ted Bundy, is furious.  You can bet your ass he'll make sure that won't happen again this week.  Just ask Andrea and Kooan (too soon?).

This week the producers of Project Runway have officially run out of money.  Their budget was supposed to last for the entirety of the season, but between Ven's insatiable ego and Nina's insistence that everything look "expensive," including the toilet paper and chicken caesar salad, the producers found themselves flat broke by episode 8.  Fear not!  Nothing can stop the show!  Tim Gunn holds up the Michael's on 100th St. at "Gunnpoint" and makes it back to Parsons with a shitload of puffy paint and t-shirts.

Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 7

Lord of the Taylors

This week's challenge is to create a dress for Lord & Taylor, to go along with a collection of dresses designed by former Project Runway contestants.  It must be commercial, retail for $200-$300 and fit the "Lord & Taylor woman," which to me means a 60 year-old trying to look like she's 50, but evidently L&T has been rebranding.

The current collection is cohesive in that all the looks are dresses and... um... that's about it.  Clearly there was no collaboration on this "collection" so I don't see what the point is in making the current contestants adhere to an aesthetic that includes a cranberry-colored chiffon maxi dress with gold applique kimono sleeves, a black taffeta party dress with a pearl brooch and a long-sleeved brown pencil dress that looks like UPS corporate.  Would you like some ketchup with your coffee?

Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 6

Annie, Get Your Gunnar

Last week Raul got the double-dutch-oven-Auf (this is a real thing).

This week the designers get slapped by the Coldstone Creamery of reality when they have to design for normal women.  Every year Project Runway has a challenge like this one and every year there are designers who act like they've just been asked to squeegee Michael Kors' fake tanner onto his speedo lines, rather than simply do the thing that they claim they have always dreamed of doing.  Come on designers, models get their clothes for free so you better get used to size 14 if you ever want to make it.

Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 5

The Tale of Nitpicking Nina and the One Way Monkey

Last week Andrea and Kooan disappeared into the murky abyss, Raul was brought back from the dead and we said Auf Wiedersehen to Buffi.

Nevertheless, the show must go on!  This week is another team challenge!

Oh how I love this meatloaf of a challenge.  It is to design a capsule collection of professional women's wear that is both editorial but also works in the real world.  There will be 2 teams, and both will have to direct their own photo shoot in addition to designing the collection with no designated team leaders.  The winning team's photos will appear in Marie Claire Magazine!!!  Oh, no, wait- that's not right.  They will appear in Marie Claire.... @Work..... Magazine!@#$!?@?#!!!  Our #1 source for all women's work fashion journalism, duh.

Episode 4: Saved by the Belt

Last week's episode left us with more questions than answers; Andrea disappeared into the night while Chris, with wide eyes but a tell-tale heart, at once feigned innocence while admitting that he "pushed her in front of a bus."

Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 3

Episode 3: Get Thee to the Emmys

Last week's Unconventional Materials Challenge gave us all a toothache, but it was worth it to see Oh-My-Lantie go.  This week is the Lexus Challenge!

What do you mean you don't know what that means?!!!  It means Project Runway agreed to yet another awkward product integration that had absolutely nothing to do with the week's challenge!  But hey, if Lexus wants to sponsor my next trip to Trader Joe's, I guess I'd let them drive me there.

Officially, the Lexus Challenge is designing an Emmys red carpet look for former Project Runway contestants, in the colors of Lexus cars.  The designers are randomly paired and will have only 1 day to complete their looks.  Most excitingly,  the winner will accompany his/her client to the Emmys.

I love team challenges.  Watching creative people try to work together toward a single vision is like telling five year-olds to take turns in a game of Hungry Hungry Hippo.  Rev up your (Lexus) engines, folks!  Here we go!

Here we are for another week of Project Runway!  Last week we got to meet our 16 contestants and this week we're on to one of my most favorite PR episodes: the Unconventional Materials Challenge!

HGTV Design Star Recap- THE FINALE!

It's HGTV Design Star Finale time!!!  After the most-talented-ever (while-purposefully-ignoring-the-possibility-of-a-recency-effect) season of designers, we find ourselves finally down to the final two: Britany Simon and Danielle Colding.

Project Runway Season 10 Recap- Episode 1

Season 10 Project Runway is Here!!!

Oh how I've missed you, regular Project Runway!  Cause let's face it, Project Runway All-Stars wasn't the same.  It reminded us why none of those people won Project Runway to begin with.  And the femme-bot with gams they had hosting it didn't even say "auf wiedersehen."  And Isaac Mizrahi ain't no Michael Kors.  No one can tell someone they look like Joan Crawford at a St. Patrick's Day party like MK.

HGTV Design Star Recap Episode 8- The Truth Yurts

The Truth Yurts

Episode 8 finds us down to the final 3: Danielle, Britany and Hilari.  This week's challenge was to design a bedroom suite in a yurt.  What the eff is a yurt you ask?  Well, it is defined as a portable structure from Central Asia that is round and built on a lattice form.  Easy Japanese-y.  Literally.

HGTV Design Star Recap

So who out there saw Design Star last night?  If you did, check out my recap.  Or if you didn't but you don't give a damn about spoilers, read on!  If you didn't and you do care about spoilers, catch up on your DVR, lazy.

Anyways...

Last night's challenge was to create a space for a Hollywood party in specific design genres.  This, in itself, was a bit of a stretch for Hollywood considering nouveau douche wasn't an option- perhaps it's implied in all of them?  Instead, they had to pick from: Victorian, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Mid-century Contemporary, 70's, 80's and Futuristic (notice how I put them in chronological order?!!).
Clean slate
